Leading the Way
Hey Ladies...I wanted to share something with you that God has been teaching me. Scott and I have been intentional to lean into our marriage lately during this transitional time in our lives with a child leaving home. It is true the days are long, but the years are so short. Seasons in our lives come and go so quickly.
To my surprise, Scott on his very own accord took the initiative and signed us up for ballroom dancing lessons, yes the man gets major brownie points for that one!
For a couple of date nights we have been gracefully sweeping across the floor of Fred Astaire Studios. Yes, it is exactly like the movies with such poise, grace, rhythm and romance. This is of course if I don't look at the mirror along the entire wall of the dance studio and just visualize it my mind.
As the passionate, expert instructor teaches us the steps to classic dances that are new to us, we begin to step into a synchronized rhythm. Knowing the man is to always lead the way and I am to follow, I begin to learn the pattern where together we are dancing in a perfect and beautiful rhythm. I trust him as he leads me across the dance floor!
Then, all to quickly, I became confident that "I've got this" and started going through the motions and relying on what I already knew. In an instant when Scott decided to spice things up and add a fun, creative element, I was caught off guard. Wait, why are we changing things? I was comfortable in the dance that we had learned and had finally gotten the hang of it. I started to get frustrated that it wasn't going the way I planned or the way I knew.
Days later, the Holy Spirit began to reveal a weakness in my life. This incredible journey of life with God is about Him leading every step of the way. It's not about me learning the rhythm and the process and leaning on that as a crutch. It is about trusting God enough to know that every step He leads us in is the right step! I love Psalm 37:23, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way."
I pray that that we as women learn to trust God in every season, knowing He has what is best for us in store. May our journey with God be a beautiful dance where He gets the honor of leading every step of the way.
The best is yet to come!
